The Bielsko-Biała Chamber of Commerce and Industry has participated in the economic life of the Podbeskidzie Region, in creating its image and revival of the economic self-government with its 19th century roots since the year 1990. The Association of Industrialists in Bielsko, Biała and their surroundings, established in 1809, or the Industrial and Commercial Chamber in Bielsko-Biala, dating back to the beginning of the 20th century are a meaningful proof of the development of economic policy of the city and the region, so much valued nowadays. The pre-war economic self-government circles did their best to ensure the access to the newest technological inventions and their applications in local factories, they popularized – through lectures - new regulations of the commercial and fiscal laws, developed business contacts with England, the USA, Russia or German countries. Today, the Chamber draws upon that tradition the best models, it continues and develops the functions of representing the interests of small and medium-sized enterprises before the entities of the government and local administration and endeavours to be a competent partner of the institutions which are structuring the economic image of the Silesian Province. Chambers of Commerce - voluntary, self-government organizations, associating business entities operating in the province - were established after the Act of May 3 1989 became effective, on the strength of which there were revived economic self-governments in the region, in abeyance for the last 40 years.
